May/June, 2006

On May 16, 2006, Waters 7th graders took a field trip to the Indiana Sand Dunes. It was the first field trip that students took that was out of the state. The field trip was from 6:45 a.m to 7:00 p.m. When we got there we met with some of the park rangers.  We were amazed at what we learned. It is a land with over 1,400 different plants species and is spread out over 15,000 acres of dunes, marshes, woodlands, river, and bog. Then we were divided into three groups. The first place we observed was the open beach and the fore dune. We had to climb up Mt. Baldy which is a big sand hill and then take data of what we saw. After that we did some water quality projects to test the water of Lake Michigan. Next, we got on the bus and went to the Deciduous Forest where we took a hike of three miles. Along the way we saw and learned about plants like dogwood and poison ivy. When the hike was over we met on the bus and thanked our park rangers for an amazing day and experiences we won't forget.
