Brief Description: Goal: My goal is to engage students into an analysis of text and diagrams at or above their reading level, and to move them to a comfortable place with text and diagrams where they are more confident. The students will learn how to deal with text, diagrams, graphs and charts at a higher level than they are currently which will allow them to become engaged in their learning at a higher level of Blooms. Goal Long-Term: (includes this project) I will attempt to never teach scientific inquiry in isolation, and to use my content when I teach skills and scientific inquiry through out the entire year. I will attempt to build toward a 'perfect' student by assessing their strengths and weaknesses and developing a plant that will allow them to develop critical thinking skill that will enable them to apply knowledge to multiple places and use all area of science simultaneously. Brief Description: Hundreds of years ago Galileo pointed a very simple telescope toward the planet Jupiter. He was amazed that the little dots of light near Jupiter seemed to move back and forth in an organized way. Later mathematicians like Kepler and physicists like Newton used observations of planets and moons to describe laws and develop theories of gravity and motion. With our own telescope observations we will collect and analyze data so we can retrace Galileo's steps and the thinking of Kepler and Newton. The steps you use in this activity to understand the orbits of Jupiter's moons can be used for any planet. Interacting Galaxies
