Brief Description: An understanding of the life cycles of stars is fundamental to at least three of the NSES goals for science education: those dealing with understanding the origin of elements, solar system, and galaxies. One of the best ways to learn about the life cyle of stars is to create an H-R diagram of a star cluster. Hands-On Universe astronomy students will use open star cluster images and HOU image processing software to classify stars by their color. By plotting stars on a relative H-R diagram (apparent magnitude vs. color, students will be able to estimate the distance to the star cluster and its probable age.

Brief Description: During the week of Jan 11-17, 2004, Hands-On Universe schools from around the world will image Saturn using CCD camera equipped telescopes to obtain images each hour and half hour as continuously as possible. Brief Description: An understanding of the life cycles of stars is fundamental to at least three of the NSES goals for science education: those dealing with understanding the origin of elements, solar system, and galaxies. One of the best ways to learn about the life cyle of stars is to create an H-R diagram of a star cluster. Hands-On Universe astronomy students will use open star cluster images and HOU image processing software to classify stars by their color. By plotting stars on a relative H-R diagram (apparent magnitude vs. color, students will be able to estimate the distance to the star cluster and its probable age.

Brief Description: An understanding of the life cycles of stars is fundamental to at least three of the NSES goals for science education: those dealing with understanding the origin of elements, solar system, and galaxies. One of the best ways to learn about the life cyle of stars is to create an H-R diagram of a star cluster. Hands-On Universe astronomy students will use open star cluster images and HOU image processing software to classify stars by their color. By plotting stars on a relative H-R diagram (apparent magnitude vs. color, students will be able to estimate the distance to the star cluster and its probable age.
