IDNR Illinois Biodiversity Squirrel Study
Year-round
In this biodiversity project from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) Illinois students will collect data on the populations and activities of squirrels around their school that to help scientists learn more about squirrels in Illinois.

The Collaboratory’s Scariest Stories
October
Students create and share their scariest stories, illustrations and sound effects. Each classroom submits a link to a local legend or a scary place in their community. They also take The Scariest Survey to learn more about the other participating students and what they are most scared of. |

What I am Most Thankful For
November
Students share a description of what they are most thankful for and why. They can include video, audio images and/or text. |

Monarch Book Award
October– February
Students in grades K - 3 submit reviews of the books they have read in the Internet Book Club (IBC). They use the IBC discussion area to discuss the books with their fellow reviewers. After discussing the books they have read, students vote on their favorite Monarch nominee and analyze the results. They will then submit a drawing of their favorite scene from the book they selected. |

Annual Rebecca Caudill Internet Book Club Project
October – February
Students in grades 4 - 8 submit reviews of the books they have read in the Internet Book Club (IBC). They use the IBC discussion area to discuss the books with their fellow reviewers. After discussing the books they have read, students vote on their favorite Rebecca Caudill nominee and analyze the results |

iVOTE! '08
February
Students will create campaign posters for their favorite candidate and vote in the Collaboratory for the Illinois primary.

IDNR Illinois Biodiversity Spider Study
February - June
In this biodiversity project, students across Illinois will collect data on the life-cycle and activities of targeted spider populations in and around their school or home to learn more about spiders in Illinois.

IDNR Illinois Biodiversity Frogs and Toads Study
February - June
In this biodiversity project, students
will visit a water source near their school or home and learn more about the location and population numbers of these amphibians by identifying their calls, and collecting and reporting data.

Day in Our Neighborhood
March
Students from around the country take pictures and record audio (optional) about their school and community. They share Internet links about their community and take a survey to learn more about each other. Data and photos are shared on an online interactive map of Illinois. |

Poetry Month
April
For National Poetry Month, students share and discuss poems they have written and illustrated (optional) in a Poetry Month Nexus community. |
