HOW THE FIFTH GRADE BILINGUAL PROGRAM FUNCTIONS

COMO FUNCIONA EL PROGRAMA BILINGUE DE QUINTO GRADO
 

The fifth grade bilingual program is organized in that the students learn in a bilingual classroom in the morning, and the mainstream classroom in the afternoon. During the morning the students study ESL, Spelling, Reading, Writing, Science, and Social Studies in Spanish and in English.  The purpose is to teach the students English, while they also study the concepts of fifth grade in their own language.  During the afternoon the students study Mathematics and Science in their mainstream classroom.  The purpose is to integrate the students, give them more experience in English while teaching them the concepts of Math and Science.  Students choose whether or not they want their textbooks and/or worksheets in English, Spanish or both.  The students are pre-taught Science in the morning.  The afternoon Science program consists of experiments, projects, and group work.
 

El programa bilingue de quinto grado está organizdo en que los alumnos aprenden en una clase bilingue por la mañana, y en la clase monolingue por la tarde.  Durante la mañana, los estudiantes estudian Inglés Como Segundo Idioma, ortografía, lectura, escritura,ciencias y estudios sociales en inglés y en español.  El propósito es enseñar a los alumnos inglés, mientras están estudiando los conceptos del quinto grado en su propio idioma.  Durante la tarde los estudiantes estudian matemáticas y ciencias en su clase monolingue.  El propósito es integrar a los alumnos, darles más experiencia en inglés,mientras enseñarles los conceptos de matemáticas y ciencias.   Los estudiantes escogen si quieren los libros y las hojas de trabajo en inglés, español, o los dos idiomas.  Los alumnos estudian las ciencias antes por la mañana.  El programa de ciencias por la tarde consiste en los experimentos, los proyectos, y el trabajo en grupos.
