Oak Terrace Elementary

The new Oak Terrace School closely reflects the style of Architect Frank Lloyd Wright's Prairie Architecture.
After looking at several of FLW's building designs, 3rd graders also learned that Wright designed many of the windows in his projects as well.  The window below inspired our designs:

We discussed vertical and horizontal lines, size difference, variety, informal balance, and stained glass techniques.  Following the discussion, students began to develop their own designs with marker on tagboard using these same concepts:

After the designs were drawn, we learned about the unique qualities of the primary colors.  Students then used red, yellow, and blue crayons to add color to their designs.
