Oak Leaves
Do you know a great way that our school rewards students for doing well ?
Well here’s how. It’s called an oak leaf !
An oak leaf is  a green paper that has a oak leaf in the middle. There are three bold headings that say : Being Respectful, Being Safe and Being Ready to Learn. Under the three headings it has in small print the categories like listening, sharing, cooperating, following directions, keeping hands and feet to yourself, staying on task, being prepared, and having a plan.
     If you’re wondering,
the first three headings are our three expectations or rules that help our school be as beautiful on the inside as it is the outside. I bet you want to know what we do with the oak leaves. Well yo can get stuff like candy, food and other things Usually on Friday you can trade the oak leaves in. There is also a raffle and you can put as many oak leaves as you want! Isn’t that cool?
     When you get
an oak leaf the teacher that gives you the oak leaf has to fill out what you did first. For example let’s say someone helps you with something you didn’t understand and the teacher didn’t ask you to help. Then she would probably give you an oak leaf and fill it out under Being Respectful.
Now you know about our plan.I hope you like it. I think you deserve an oak leaf yourself for being nice and reading this!!

 Mr. Corrie
In September someone interesting came to our class to learn how to be a teacher. That someone is Mr. Corrie.
Mr. Corrie helped kids. He helped us with Math, Social Studies, Science  and   Reading  groups. Once for three weeks Mr. Corrie   was our teacher for the whole day.  It was fun.   He helped us with our work. Mr. Corrie  also  played the gutiar with the another fourth grade teacher. He also helped other teachers such as Mrs. Einhorn. While he came to help us, Mr. Corrie had to write  a  paper about his experiences.  He also did a  project about Mrs. Espinosa’s class to show his class how we learned Math.  Mrs. Espinosa got an Oak Terrace shirt and  we  all  signed  it.  The
fifth  grade  signed  it, too. We all know he’s is going to be a great teacher.

Question of the Day
.       In Mrs. Espinosa’s class we answer the Question of the Day.  We do that because it allows Mrs. Espinosa to know who’s absent and our classmate who is the attendance person to do his or her job. The Question of the Day also helps us learn new and interesting things. We begin our day by unpacking our stuff and answering the Question of the Day . The type of questions are like “For Electricity I”...
A: Could live without it.
B:Couldn’t live without it!
or
“Who did their homework”
A:Did it.
B: Didn’t do it.
We  answer the questions by moving our magnets that have our names on it. That’s how we answer Question of the Day in Mrs. Espinosa’s class.

I.C.M.M  Cards
Hello Friends, and Parents. What you are going to learn about is I.C.M.M cards. I.C.M.M  stands for I Can Manage Myself. This card lets you go to get a drink or go to the bathroom without asking a teacher. Only one girl and one boy can go to the bathroom or get a drink at the same time. If you have this card then that means the teacher can trust you. If you’re wondering how we earn our I.C.M.M cards, we have a chart called ”The I.C.M.M Chart”.
How we earn I.C.M.M cards is we have to get less than four checks in two weeks. If you break one of the rules or not do your homework then you will get a ”check”. When you get four checks then you get your I.C.M.M card taken away. When it’s Monday all the checks that you got will be taken away. When you get less than three checks in one week, then you can get your I.C.M.M card back. When you have this card you can earn privileges. Now you know how we earn our I.C.M.M cards.

Read At Home
Our class is reading at home because we want to get better at reading.  First of all our teacher has to give us a paper with lots of pictures of books . We take the sheet home and every night we read a book for thirty minutes. When we are done reading the book, we tell our mom or dad to put his or her initials on top of a book on the paper.  When we fill up the whole paper, we take it to the teacher and our teacher gives us another one.  The first one is in black and white, but the second one and all of the rest of the papers will be colored.  Our teacher  hangs it on
the wall.  It is fun to read at home.

We learn Italian and English on the computer.  We don’t throw things in lunch and we don’t have lunch recess. We help other students with classwork .  In Venice school is hard.  There are 30  students and 3 teachers. We have to listen and work. There is no recess. There is so much

Clean Up Crew

Do you know what a clean up crew is? Well if you don’t, you should. We’re doing this for the school, so it won’t be dirty. Our teacher Mrs.Espinosa made a poster board that said Clean Up Crew, the week and the teacher. When your day comes, we go outside and cover the whole school ground  to pick up garbage. When we go outside, we pick some people to go outside of the fence and some go in back, too. Our class was the first one to do this . When you walk, I hope you don’t litter because if you do maybe one day you’ll be picking garbage up, too.

 Northeastern States

This  grading period we learned  about  the  history,  natural resources,  geography,  and  the  life  in the  Northeast.  The   geography  of  the  Northeast  is  made  up  of rocky  coastlines  and  the  Appalachian  Mountains . The  climate  of  the  Northeast   has  four   different  seasons.
The  Natural  Resources  of  the  Northeast  are  very  important   to   the  region. The  Northeast  region  has   bays   for  fishing   and    harbors  for  boats  to  dock. There  are  also   minerals for building. The  most   important  mineral  found   in  the  Northeast   is   coal.  Most   of   coal   is  found in  Pennsylvania.  Coal  is   used  to make   electricity,   which   helps   to  run   factories   and  make the  light  in  homes.
The  history   of   the  northeast  includes   how    young   boys  and  girls   lived  in  the  past. Another  thing  we  studied   is  the  American   Revolution   which    started    in  1775    and    ended on  1777.  We    fought   against   unfair   taxes  and  for our   freedom.

MULTIPLICATION     WARS

In our classroom we do multiplication wars, so we can get faster and better at multiplication. This is how to play. First you get two  people to play. You deal an equal amount of cards. You shuffle the cards and turn them
upside down. You flip the top card so your opponent doesn’t
see the front of the card. Multiply those two numbers. Whoever
says the answer first gets those two cards. If you or your opponent says the wrong answer,  the other person gets a
chance to win the cards. If you  get  all  your opponent’s
cards, you get one point for your team. At the end of the time
whoever has the most points wins. That’s how you play
Multiplication War.

New Students
Every week Oak Terrace gets new students. I’m one of them. My
name  is  Evelyn. So far  it is a nice  school. We welcome all the
new students here as well as all the new teachers. All the new students  are so lucky to be able to come to a nice school. I’m going to be telling  you about what it’s like being a new student. When I first saw the school I thought it was a jail and I was scared, but then I met all of the nice kids. Becky’s my best friend. In a couple of weeks I was fitting right in. Well  I  hope if you  have  read  this  far you like my  story.   Good bye!!!!
Math

In our classroom in Math we are studying Geometry. In Geometry we have learned about slides, flips, and turns. I really hope that you know how to do them because I can’t show you . Another thing we’ve learned about in Geometry are perpendicular lines. Perpendicular lines are two lines that meet at 90 degrees. The last things we’ve been learning about are ordered pairs. Ordered pairs are a  point on grid that shows something.

Leaf Projects
We did leaf projects in Mrs. Espinosa’s 4th grade class. The reason we did this was because it mixed Science, Art, and Social Studies. We did these leaf projects by collecting leaves at our houses. When we got our leaves, we  brought them into class. When we brought  the leaves in the classroom we picked  two leaves (but not by their color). Then we took a piece of paper and a small box of fabric crayons. We took our two leaves and placed them on the paper a few inches apart.  We  colored boxes slightly bigger than our leaves. Then we gave our paper and leaves to Mrs. Espinosa. Mrs. Espinosa took a different paper (plain) and stuck our leaves under our colored boxes. She ironed them all together. When she was done, she  placed the colored leaves on a piece of fabric where ever we wanted. After that we fringed the fabric until it was just right. Then we found sticks about 1 foot long. We brought the sticks into the classroom. Mrs. Espinosa tied the string to the stick. She hung them on the wall. They are so pretty!!  After a few months  we got to take them  home. Now that you know how to make them, you can make them in your home!!

Everyday Counts

Everyday our class does a special thing that is called Everyday Counts.  First we keep track of how many days we have been in school.  Also we always count money. That's probably why we call it Everyday Counts! We do this because it teaches us how to multiply and add. It also shows us how to find patterns. Everyday Counts also teaches us about place value and where to put our numbers in the right place. We do money because, we want to see if can we get to  million dollars. If you want to join the fun, be my guest!!!

Sunrise/Sunset
Hi!  My name is Samantha from 4ES. Here in 4ES we’re making graphs that show the amount of daylight. The graphs use the time the sun rises and sets to show the changes in the amount of daylight. We are doing this because we want to see how much daylight we have left. Each one of us has a sunrise/sunset graph. This week Eric and Megan are doing the Sunrise/Sunset Chart. Every Wednesday someone puts the date and time the sun rises and when the sun sets. I wonder what the graph is going to look like when I get out of fourth grade.
