The Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal
The first winner of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal was Laura Ingalls Wilder in 1954! It is presented every three years.  This award honors an author or illustrator whose books, published in the United States,  have made, over a period of years  a substantial and lasting contribution to literature for children. The Hans Christian Andersen Award  was established in 1956. 


It is awarded by the International Board on Books for Young People  every two years to one author and one illustrator in recognition of his or her entire body of work.  A list of winners from 1956 through the present can be found on IBBY's site.
