Celebrate your birthday with Oak Terrace!
Donate a new book to the library in honor of your special  day.
The Oak Terrace Birthday Book program is sponsored by the IMC.

 What is a Birthday Book?

A Birthday Book is a book that is donated to the Oak Terrace IMC in honor of a child’s birthday. The Birthday Book program helps to add quality books to the Media Center. This program is in place at many District 112 schools.

 Who can participate?

Every Oak Terrace student is invited to join in the celebration! There are birthday books available for all kindergarten  through fifth graders. Many students donate a book each year they are at Oak Terrace.

How does a child get a Birthday Book?

If a child chooses to donate a Birthday Book, the child’s parents send  $5 to school with the child.

 Who chooses the Birthday Books?

There is a Birthday Book cart in the IMC behind the circulation desk. On the cart, there is a wide selection of new books that students can choose from. We try to keep a nice variety of books on hand so that student have a choice. Books are available for every interest and reading level. The books are selected by Mrs. Weiner and  Mrs. Block. These teachers are always available to help students select books.

How much does a Birthday Book cost?

The usual donation is $5-$15.

How do I pay for a Birthday Book?

Students pay purchase birthday books with either cash or a check. It is usually easier to send a check with your child. Please make checks out to Oak Terrace Library Activities.

How is Birthday Book money spent?

The Birthday Book money is used to reimburse the IMC for the cost of the book.  Most new books cost approximately $15.

Do children get to keep their Birthday Books?

All Birthday Books will belong to Oak Terrace. Students who donate books will be the first to check out their Birthday Book. We ask that the Birthday Book be returned to the library after one week, like any other book. When the book is returned, it is shelved and available for all Oak Terrace students to check out and enjoy.

How will everyone know which book my child donated?

Students’ pictures and names will be posted in the library on the Birthday Book bulletin board. A special bookplate will also be permanently placed inside the Birthday Book. Each bookplate recognizes the child who donated the child’s birthday and age.
