                                                Dear Third Graders,
Thank you so much for all of your emails. It is so great to hear from you. I hope that you are
enjoying our website and learning a lot more about Alaska and the Iditarod. I also hope that I’ll
be able to post the movies that I’ve been making. They are so much fun to watch. If not, I’ll show
you them when I get back to Chicago. I have saved some interesting articles from The Anchorage
                                                Daily for you.
I have been meeting so many interesting people. There are about 35 teachers from all over the
United States in the workshop. There are elementary school teachers, some who teach jr. high
school, and others that teach high school. The people who live in Alaska are very friendly! There
are so many volunteers from all over the world helping out with the Iditarod. Even the veterinarians
and pilots volunteer their time! I have been meeting a few mushers each day and getting their
autographs for you as you asked. They are all very kind. They love that you are interested in the race
                                                and are rooting them on.
I am very anxious to see the mushers and dogs start off on Saturday. It should be very exciting.
I also can’t wait to fly on a Cessna 206, single engine airplane, to the checkpoints on Sunday and
Monday. Try to see if any of the race is going to be on TV or in the newspaper.
It has been very cold, but when the sun comes out, it’s not so bad. I brought warm clothes, so
I’m doing just fine. There sure is a lot of snow and ice. It is so neat to see the water frozen and planes
                                                landing on the lakes.
I hope that you are all behaving yourselves and listening to Ms. Maza and Mrs. Norman. I miss
                                                you very much!
                                                                                                      (:  Mrs. Murphy
