Description of Institution
Loyola University Chicago, the most comprehensive of all Jesuit colleges and universities in the United States,
includes the Loyola University Medical Center and four higher education campuses: three in the Chicago area, and
one in Rome, Italy; and nine schools and colleges: arts and sciences, business administration, education, graduate
studies, law, medicine, nursing, social work, and adult education and continuing studies. Currently, 13,600 students
attend the university which has 1,100 full-time faculty members, 97% of whom hold a Ph.D. or the highest available
academic degree in their fields. The undergraduate student/faculty ratio of 11 to 1 remains significantly below
the national average of 19 to 1.

Undergraduate tuition for 1997-1998 year is $15,654; the average room and board cost is $6,380.
Academic Calendar
Undergraduate/graduate classes are offered during two 16-week semesters; during the summer: one 8-week session
and two special accelerated sessions. Full-or part-time options are available, and many day, evening and weekend
classes are offered on most campuses.
Campus Support Services
Loyola offers a range of academic resources: high-tech science and computer labs, fine-art studios and galleries,
a FM-radio station and a comprehensive library system with seven campus libraries. Students have access to more
than 400 networked personal computers available in campus computer centers and residence hall labs. Every student
has access to the World Wide Web and other Internet services, plus an individual electronic-mail account.

through its School of Business Administration, School of Education, Institute of Human Resources and Industrial
Relations, Niehoff School of Nursing, Institute of Paralegal Studies, School of Social Work, School of Law, Stritch
School of Medicine and the Graduate School. Dual degree programs are offered in biochemical sciences, political
science and law. Adult education and continuing studies programs are available through Loyola Unviersity Chicago's
Mundelein College.
