Hayt Class of 1998
Name: Quamar Bashir
Hayt Memory/Memories: I remember sitting in my regular class and not understanding a word of English. Mrs. Ahmed was my bilingual teacher at Hayt. Mrs. Ahmed was suppose to be my bilingual teacher but she went beyond her duty and use to help me with regular class studies as well. She helped me with everything and anything. Given that I did not have parents present in my life during those times. Mrs. Ahmed was my mentor and I always use to listen to her and follow her advice. I always felt safe around Mrs. Ahmed and never hesitated to ask her a question. She is the one who made me realize that obtaining education is the only way to go. She told me that there will be many times when I will have to choose between education and other things, but to never give up and choose education over everything else. Mrs. Ahmed, I can't thank you enough for what you have done for me. I can only say that I was very lucky to have you and your wisdom in my life. Although for a short time but long enough to help shape me to be who I am now.
Activities/Where Are You Now? Currently I'm finishing my undergraduate studies at McMaster University located in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. I am also a registered Mortgage Specialist/Credit Specialist and operate a small business on the side. I left USA for personal reasons in 2003 but I thank the American people for accepting me and giving me a chance to go to school - a chance to get education and to make a difference in the world.
