Dear Hayt Community,
We are very
excited about the start of the 2006-2007 school year. The summer
has been very busy and productive.
We know many
teachers participated in a variety of professional development opportunities
over the summer. Some attended the Organizational Health Team Training
in late June. In early July, the S.T.A.R.S. Team (School Teams Achieving
Results for Students) took part in a 2 day workshop at Little Village High
School. We also know that many faculty members participated in other professional
development activities such as the Gifted Training, Math Trailblazers Training
at Walsh School and the National-Louis Summer Reading Workshop in Northbrook,
IL.
Based on our
test scores, it is obvious to all that our staff worked hard last year!!
For those of you who have not heard, our ISAT scores were exceptional!!
Our ISAT scores both in Reading and Math demonstrated considerable gains.
This could not have occurred without the support of every individual who
works at Hayt. To refresh your memories, last year (2005) our composite
score was 59.3%; in 2006 our composite score is 75.2%!
The Local
School Council also held its organizational meeting in July. Meetings will
be held the 3rd Thursday of the month with the exception of the month of
December; meetings will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium.
There have
also been a few physical changes to Hayt; the art room is now in room 220,
providing a larger space with 2 sinks! Also, new, grade/age appropriate,
world and U.S. maps were also installed in the classrooms, updating our
antiquated U.S.S.R. maps; new globes are also being distributed.
Lastly, a larger, power movie screen in the auditorium was installed, completing
the auditoriums audio/video upgrade.
There have
been a few changes in our staff as well. We’ve added a few staff
members: 2 special education teachers and a P.E. teacher. Please
welcome Martha Lushniak, Ivy Greenberger and Megan Moore. Ms. Lushniak
comes to us from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor’s of Science
in Education and a minor in Math, Science and Physical Education; Ms. Lushniak
will be our new P.E. teacher. Ms. Greenberger is a graduate from
Indiana University, with a dual-degree in Elementary Education and Special
Education. Ms. Greenberger will be our 3rd / 4th grade Special Education
Resource teacher in room 201. Last but not least, Ms. Moore is a graduate
from Miami University in Ohio with a degree in Special Education.
Ms. Moore will be our new 7th / 8th Instructional Special Education classroom
teacher in room 308. All of these ladies come with a lot of energy
and with a mind set of academic rigor and truly will be an asset to our
staff.
Let’s have
a great year,
Daniel Gomez
