 Meta-search Engines
Metacrawler
This engine employs several other search engines -- Lycos, InfoSeek, WebCrawler, Excite, Alta Vista and Yahoo, MetaCrawler and ranks results by relevance. One of MetaCrawler's advantages over other search engines is its standardization of query syntax. [e.g., Surround groups of words that must occur together with quotation marks. Specify words and phrases that must appear in documents by prefixing them with a plus sign and those that must not occur be prefixing them with a minus sign. There should be no spaces between a + or - sign and the word to which it applies. There should be a space between individual query terms.] Metacrawler contains the feature "META SPY" which enables you to see and join searches currently being conducting by others. <http://www.metacrawler.com>
Search Spaniel
Search Spaniel lets you use as many search engines as you like simultaneously and groups related search engines together under categories.  In addition, you can personalize Search Spaniel by selecting from the 200+ engines available to create a personal list.  Each time you return, the list will be displayed for use. <http://www.searchspaniel.com>
Inference Find!
Tired of hitting "Next 10 hits?"  Inference Find searches several engines concurrently -- at this time, WebCrawler, Yahoo, Lycos, Alta Vista, InfoSeek and Excite.  It merges returned results, removes redundancies and clusters results in understandable categories.  You specify the maximum amount of time for a search.  While Boolean operators may be used, they assist in narrowing for search meaningfully only for those engines that support such operators. <http://infind.inference.com/infind/infind.exe>

Search Engines
HotBot
PC Computing put several search engines to the test in May of 1997.  HotBot won the competition.  HotBot's "SuperSearch" button gives you many options for searching.  Click "Tips" for searching advice. A Links-to-this-URL feature enables you to find out how many people have linked to your web pages or to any other web page.  If your search returns too many results, a SuperSearch feature enables you to add additional search terms to modify your original search.  In SuperSearch, a pop-up menus for "must contain, should contain, and must not contain" and for "the words, the exact phrase, the person and links to this URL" enable you to modify the original search.  Additionally, SuperSearch allows you (1) to specify how "deep" into web sites you want to search -- i.e., front page, depth:3 and (2) to use such meta words as "title:xxxx" to find all occurrences of xxxx in the title; or domain:.edu to find matches in URLS with the domain ".edu"; or date meta words -- after:[day]/[month]/[year], within:[number]/[unit], or before:[day]/[month]/[year] to restrict results to documents created after, within or before designated unites of time. <http://www.hotbot.com>
SiFMuG Universal Interface
SiFMug contains a huge list of search engines.  SiFMug was designed as a web-based tool for finding worldwide and global information on the Internet with an unified gateway interface -- that is, with either 32-bit or 16-bit platform browsers, either window-based or text-based.  SiFMuG uses keywords to search. <http://hastu.com/others.html>
