    Literary influences: 
     -Descartes wrote about ideas of revolt and rebellion. (Resistance, rebellion and  death) Also, “Existence precedes essence”. 
     -Camus detested Nietzsche. Camus was quoted as saying “...he is an evil spirit of contemporary Europe”, but later described him as one of his “spiritual fathers”. 
     -Ideas of Marx were always opposed by Camus. 
     -Gide- French author of Les Nourritures Terrestres. Offered ideas about “Disciplined Romanticism” and shaped Camus’s concept of aesthetics. 
     -French author Jean Grenier. 
     -Ideas of Hegel were usually opposed by Camus. 
     -Camus was fascinated by adaptive plays. 

    Personal influences: 
     -Illness during 1937-1942 fueled his “absurd man” writings and thought. 
     -He was the son of a farm laborer, his father died the year Camus was born. 
     -Camus was brought up in “The freedom of long Algerian summers.” 
     -His mother was partially deaf. 
     -Camus was married and divorced to Simone Hie in 1933. He later married Francine Falice in 1940, twins Jean and Catherine soon arrived. 
     -From 1935 to 1938 Camus ran the Theatre de L’Equipe, a theatre company that produced plays by Malraux, Gide, Synge, Dostoevski and others.
